Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR)
In a MVHR system, fresh air from outside is brought in to a property and supplied through duct work to living rooms and bedrooms. Air is extracted from kitchens and bathrooms and exhausted from the property through another set of duct work. The flow of supply and extract air comes into thermal contact in the MVHR unit where some of the heat in the extract air is transferred to the supply air.
The main purpose of a MVHR system is to improve air quality which can be an issue in new, very air tight properties. All the systems we install comes with a “summer bypass” function. This allows fresh air to be supplied to the property without being heated by the extract air in the summer. This contributes to cooling the property during warm periods in the summer by bringing in colder air during nights. The MVHR system can be integrated with ground source heat pump by heat exchanging the extract air against the heat transfer liquid in the ground collector.
