Multi Source Heat Pumps
One of Better Planet’s specialities is to design and install multi-source heat pump systems. In these systems the energy is collected from the ground in combination with another source. The efficiency of a ground source heat pump depends on the temperature of the heat transfer liquid from the ground. While the ground is a reliable source of heat in all circumstances, other sources can provide higher temperatures, especially day time. Better Planet has done a number of installations where the ground collector is supplemented by an air collector or a solar collector. By controlling the flow from these collectors, the average temperature of the heat transfer liquid is increased resulting in a higher efficiency system than ground source only. In commercial applications other sources of heat can be used. For instance, Better Planet has successfully delivered systems where exhaust air from live stock has been used to supplement ground collectors.
