Why Choose Heat Pumps for Your Care Facility?
Delivering stable indoor temperatures is vital in a care setting—both for resident wellbeing and operational consistency. With rising energy costs and increasing pressure to meet sustainability targets, heat pumps offer an efficient, future-proof solution for care homes looking to upgrade their heating systems.
Better yet, they directly support compliance with the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) new environmental sustainability standard, which encourages care providers to reduce their environmental impact and adopt low-carbon practices.
Whether you manage a single site or a group of facilities, our tailored air source and ground source heat pump systems can help you:
- ✅ Future-proof your buildings against regulation and fuel volatility
- ✅ Lower energy bills
- ✅ Reduce carbon emissions
- ✅ Improve comfort for residents and staff
- ✅ Meet ESG CQC goals
The Benefits of Heat Pumps for Care Facilities
For Residents
Comfort and reliability aren’t optional in a care home—they’re essential. Our heat pump systems are designed around the real-world demands of care provision:
- Consistent indoor temperatures: Stable heating helps maintain a safe, healthy environment for elderly and vulnerable residents.
- Quiet operation: Low-noise performance supports peace and comfort day and night.
- Year round comfort: Systems can offer passive or active cooling to reduce overheating during summer months.
Sustainability and Cost Savings
- High efficiency: Heat pumps deliver up to four times the energy output for every unit of electricity consumed—reducing your dependency on gas and oil.
- CQC alignment: The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has now issued a quality statement on environmental sustainability, urging care providers to:
“Understand any negative impact of our activities on the environment, and strive to make a positive contribution in reducing it and support people to do the same.”
Our renewable systems directly support this standard through:- Low-carbon infrastructure
- Measurable carbon reductions
- Improved environmental health outcomes
- Future proof for ESG compliance: Whether you’re seeking investment, tendering for public contracts, or preparing for CQC inspections, acting now puts your organisation ahead of regulatory change.
- Long term financial benefits: Reduce operating costs, avoid penalties from future emissions targets, and benefit from asset uplift through energy-efficient systems.

Client Brief
The care home group’s board was committed to introducing renewable energy across their estate to reduce operational costs and align with their long-term sustainability strategy. Their objectives were twofold:
- Future-proof their portfolio against regulatory and energy market risks.
- Reduce energy bills, particularly from high gas and electricity use.
Our Solution
The properties ranged in age from 40 to over 100 years old, with a complex mix of extensions and varied heating and hot water systems. Replacing the radiators throughout the 100 fully occupied resident bedrooms would have caused significant disruption.
To minimise intervention while achieving energy savings, we designed a system using:
- 2 x 12kW Vaillant Air Source Heat Pumps
- 2 x 400L Hot Water Cylinders (HWCs) to meet domestic hot water demand
- Integration with an existing large Solar PV array, allowing the care homes to offset heat pump electricity consumption with self-generated power
This approach focused on supplying hot water independently of the legacy heating system while leveraging solar generation to improve operating efficiency.
Project Success
✅ Aligned the site with CQC’s environmental sustainability quality statement and future net zero targets
✅ Delivered a low-carbon hot water solution with no disruption to residents
✅ Avoided invasive radiator replacements
✅ Improved the efficiency of the existing PV system through strategic integration
