Ground Source Heat Pump advantages

Energy efficiency

GSHPs are one of the most energy efficient ways to heat buildings. They can be 5 times more efficient than traditional gas boilers.

Reduce your carbon emissions

GSHPs use earth’s renewable energy stored in the ground to heat buildings, producing far fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional heating systems.

Future proof your home

GSHPs are expected to operate for 20 to 25 years, with the ground collectors being used for several generations of heat pumps beyond that!

Government incentives

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 towards installations in the UK.

Better Planet are ground source experts

Better Planet are the largest ground source installer in the South East. We have been designing and installing renewables systems for almost twenty years. Our customers are left with warm homes, a lower carbon footprint and a quiet property.

Ground Source Heat Pumps collect heat either horizontal loops or vertical boreholes

Horizontal loops are more cost effective if you have the space

Horizontal are layed 1.2 meters beneath the ground, with 1 meter seperation. When calculating the required area required for horizontal loops; newly built properties require approximately twice the total floor area, with older properties requiring more area.

Once the horizontal loops are in place, they usually don’t require replacing for the lifetime of the system, and beyond.

Horizontal loops can be placed in the ground, or in this case in flowing water!

Vertical boreholes are space efficient

Vertical boreholes extract heat from 60m to 200m down in the ground. They require little space (150mm width) and are suitable for a range of buidlings. For systems with more than one borehole, the seperation needs to be at least 6 meters between each borehole.

Boreholes need to be effectively sized to ensure they can support a Ground Source Heat Pump. Get in touch with a Better Planet expert to find out more.

Elliot Timlin, technical manager at CTC UK, worked alongside Better Planet’s team for the commissioning of the installation and he comments

Better Planet’s team did a great job with this installation. Great workmanship all the way though.

Multisource heat pump installations are one of the company’s specialities, and in this case we were pleased to see an application of CTC’s unique solution for combining ground source and air source. We look forward to work with Better Planet in many projects to come.

I was delighted with Better Planets service from project design to completion. Professional and friendly all the way.

Mr Young, a client based in Suffolk, installed Solar PV and a Ground Source Heat Pump with Better Planet

A Ground Source Heat Pump is a big investment, and it requires efficient design. Our team of experts have designed, installed and comissioned over 1000 projects, and we’d love to speak with you.
