Grey water harvesting
Grey water is water from baths and showers. It is mainly used for irrigating during long dry summer periods, but it can also be used for toilets. An average family of four wastes 3000 litres of grey water a week down the drain.

You can utilize grey water from baths, sinks and showers to irrigate your garden. The most efficient method is via surface drip irrigation (we recommend BioDrip line - please refer to ‘Effective irrigation’) directing the water to the root zone.
Grey water does not need treatment for it to be safe for garden irrigation. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium which are beneficial to plants. It is better for you and the environment to use natural or organic body soaps and shampoos. Bleach or bleach based products should not be used. Instead, use environment friendly cleaning agents in bathrooms as these are biodegradable and have no damaging additives.
